Malcolm Martin and Gaynor Dowling's work uses English hardwoods, worked by hand with axe, gouges and drill. The pieces contrast strong frontal images with individual textures made one mark at a time without preplanning.

Malcolm Martin and Gaynor Dowling are collaborative wood artists who have lived and worked together in Stroud, Gloucestershire, since 1997. Their different artistic backgrounds, in Fine Art and Textiles respectively, inform a practice that is simultaneously sculpture and craft. Martin and Dowling’s vessel-sculptures, which explore dimensionality and vary significantly in size and shape, are made with traditional hand-tool techniques. Meticulous and repeated carving, in a manner similar to drawing, results in the textured and patterned surfaces which celebrate their making-process.
First exhibiting together in 2002, Malcolm Martin and Gaynor Dowling have since participated in numerous exhibitions, and their work is represented in many prestigious collections across the world, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Boston Museum of Fine Art, USA, Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery and Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.

This beautiful folded stoneware bowl was created with just a rolling pin and simple hand tools. After rolling the clay, two cuts were made to be re-assembled into an origami-like bowl that demonstrates 'flawless order and geometric logic'. The tactile nature of the palm-sized piece is enhanced by its interesting textured surface, the result of reduction glazing. Perfect as both a stand-alone sculptural piece and as a functional place to hold your trinkets, this bowl is bound to bring joy.

Ann Van Hoey graduated with a degree in Ceramics from the Institute for Arts and Craft in Mechelen in 2006. Having worked as a commercial engineer for twenty years, Ann’s unique ceramic practice is foregrounded by mathematical and scientific precision. Each piece begins as a mathematical equation and technical impeccability is maintained throughout her process.
Ann’s designs take the geometry of Japanese zen gardens as inspiration. The Japanese art of origami is also hugely significant, informing the technique through which she re-assembles her cuttings of clay to create the finished form.
In 2011 Ann became a member of the International Academy of Ceramics. Since then, her work has been exhibited world-wide and she has been awarded many prizes, the number of which is made all the more remarkable considering her relatively short professional ceramic career.

Hannah Tounsend studied Ceramics and Glass at De Montfort University for a BA Hons, before going on to achieve Distinction in her MA of Fine Art. She combines ceramics and printmaking to create collections of sensitively realised vessel forms and subtly layered monoprints that explore the layered landscapes and weatherworn surfaces of the British coastline.

Celia's hand carved figures explore philosophies surrounding human consciousness. Their soft and simplified forms are developed through studying light, the shadows they cast, recognition of form and the philosophies of Carl Gustav Jung. These sculptures are shaped by the idea of repression, self-recognition and acceptance. They suggest through elongation their movement into a higher state of self-awareness.

Celia Dowson is an artist whose ceramics and cast glass objects go far beyond their functional use. Celia graduated with a BA in Ceramic Design from Central Saint Martins in 2014, before receiving her MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art in 2018.
Celia works with the different properties of glass and porcelain to evoke the movement of nature in different ways. Her porcelain vessels represent evolving landscapes, mountainscapes and seascapes through marks and gestures. Her glass pieces vary in thickness, causing subtle gradations in colour. This reflects the colours, changing light and mystery of the natural world.
Celia’s work has been exhibited widely and is part of two museum collections, Bullseye Projects in Portland, USA and the New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, Taiwan. Her unique and skillful manipulation of ceramics and glass have earned her awards such as the 2020 Wallpaper* Design Award and the 2019 FRANZ Rising Star Award.
