"In typical Jaime Hayon style, these Paper Lanterns challenge convention," notes &tradition Brand Manager Martin Kornbek Hansen. "Seen in an ultra light pendant lamp of rice paper, echoing ancient lanterns from Asia - reinvented in a modern aesthetic." Dating back centuries, paper lanterns have featured in Asia amongst the privileged and the poor, where different colors, shapes and sizes connote different meanings. Here Hayon has dispensed with cultural formalities to create a series of lanterns all in white. Hand crafted with rice paper merging various sizes and shapes together. "Lamps play such an important role in people's lives," explains Hayon. "For some cultures, they chase away the darkness by bringing hope. I've tried to keep this emotional angle about light, in a lamp that also appears light. By making the bottom part of the lamp open, the idea is to bring even more illumination to people everywhere in the world." The Paper Lantern series is comprised of three different versions in ivory white rice paper with black stained oak accents in sizes from 46 cm in diameter to 70 cm. Title

The Ronde Pendant is Oliver Schick's first product for Gubi. The bell-shaped piece has reference to the traditional pendant lamp and the heyday of 1970s lightning design; however, in a modern interpretation.

A unique detail is the opening on the top with an overhanging collar that reminds of a jar such as a vase or an amphora. The mainly downwards directed light from conventional pendant lamps does in this design also spread out of the spout-like opening and casts a smooth light gradient at the wire and ceiling. The hand-turned aluminum lamp shade with an ultra-matte lacquer almost makes it look as if it was made of ceramics.

Ronde is in several languages the word for round, circular or rotating but it is also the flat blank used for metal spinning technique, which is rotating around a molded core and shaped to a 3-dimensional body.

Weybright Pendant

Originally introduced in the 1950s, the Doo-Wop Pendant was designed in close cooperation between the Navy Buildings Department and Louis Poulsen. The pendant was used for many years in the builidngs of the Navy for many different applications such as cateens and offices. The Navy Pendant, which was the name at that time, was widely used because of the unique lighting properties and utility. Not until the early 1980th the product was taken out of the Louis Poulsen catalogues. In recent years, more and more of the old editions have been sold again through antique stores and auctions. This has caused a demand and Louis Poulsen has been asked to re-launch the products. The new version is very close to the original. The shades are still and spun by hand and completed with the fine rolled edge which gives the shades a special opticial volume. The brass variant challenges the craftsman as it is spun from a solid brass plate and appears polished.
The fixture primarily provides a downward directed soft light by means of the white lacquered inner conical reflector. The outer reflector, the main shade, contributes to directing the light up- and downwards, while at the same time spreading the soft diffuse light. The inside of the main shade is illuminated through an opening in the inner conical reflector.
Doo-Wop has a white canopy.

Simple Scallop Large Hanging Shade In Various Colors

Fritz Hansen’s Suspence™ Pendant came from the desire of designers GamFratesi to translate movement into a physical shape. The lamp shade is created by pulling at the very top, which is clearly visible and gives a sense of physical force. In addition to the organic nature of the shade, an infinity diffuser™ at the bottom of the lamp concentrates light, prevents glare, and contributes to an elegant optical illusion.

Shade is lacquered aluminum or polished copper with a clear lacquer. PVC cord measures 236" and matches lacquer finish, with the exception of copper, which has a black cord. White and light grey finishes include a white canopy, while black and copper finishes have a black canopy. Bulb is not included.
