Drinking set composed of 2 cups, 1 bottle and 1 tray hand-built by Alessandra Taccia. Alessandra’s exploration of space and composition, especially negative space, has been translated from painting to ceramics, which this set is a wonderful example of. Her interest in still-life and domestic objects demonstrates her desire to find the sublime in everyday life.
The majority of Alessandra’s ceramics originate as pinch pots which are then developed through a coiling process. The muted hues and matt surfaces are achieved by applying dry glazes or simply leaving the exterior unglazed. Alessandra’s works are both functional and sculptural and can be used everyday, elevating the experience of daily rituals.

Alessandra Taccia is an Italian artist and self-taught ceramist working and living in Cambridge. She studied Fine Art at Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti, Genova and takes inspiration from ancient artifacts from the Mediterranean area and the Far East, as well as Zen philosophy and Theosophy.
Alessandra uses a muted and restrained palette in her ceramics and paintings, hues and tones which are drawn from memories of familiar natural and urban landscapes. Alessandra’s restrained approach results in the concise expression of ideas.

This striking hand-thrown porcelain vessel has black porcelain slip brushstroke and no glaze, a relatively new technique for Tom Kemp. The  minimal form is a three dimensional piece of art, with Tom's distinctive markings creating a piece that not only tells the story of its making, recording every intricacy of movements made, but also gives the observer endless angles of interest.

Tom Kemp is a ceramicist who creates large porcelain vessels which express his interest and passion for calligraphy and Roman sign writing through mark-making. Tom creates exquisite minimal forms on the wheel which are then brought to life what is usually just a single brush stroke with a square shaped brush. The vessels are the surfaces for his brushstrokes which reveal a huge amount of information of the way he moves during the extremely quick painting process.
Tom has experimented with many different tools for mark making, working to exclude any recognisable language and focus on movements, graphical and bodily relationship, universal aspects of writing that are unspecific to any group. With refined forms and distinctive markings, Tom’s work has fast become noted among both ceramicists and collectors worldwide.

Sophie Cook graduated from Camberwell School of Arts in 1997 with a series of bottles in varying shades of matt turquoise. This was her reaction to the glazes conventionally used in traditional ceramics, which she deemed dull. Sophie now works with a huge variety of tones, which function more than merely as surface decoration, and are integral to Sophie’s designs.
Sophie’s pieces are on display in prominent permanent collections, such as The Manchester City Galleries, the Geffrye Museum, London and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Sophie is often commissioned for pieces and installations, meaning she is represented in residencies all over the world. In 2002, she was awarded the Adrian Sassoon Award of the Kiln at Chelsea Crafts Fair, and from 2009 to 2011 she was included in the touring exhibition ‘European Design Since 1985: Shaping the New Century'.

"I was educated at Kolding Designschool, in 2005, as a ceramic artisan and has my own studio and shop in the center of Copenhagen. Being a ceramicist to me, is a colaboration between my immagination, my hands and the ceramic materials. There is something basically in creating with your hands, turning dirt into something refined. To me it is the exact same fascination now, as when i was playing with clay in my parents garden, as a child. Only now it is more consious and the finish is more intentional."

Anna hand throws each piece in porcelain on the potter’s wheel, cutting, reassembling and reshaping some of the larger pieces. Stretching the physical properties of the materials she works with, Anna accentuates the form with the application of a mixed texture glaze in a lovely green.

Anna Silverton’s playful and delicate porcelain vases and bowls demonstrate a highly disciplined and controlled wheel-throwing technique. She is continually exploring forms and textures, seeking to achieve pieces which combine elegance with visual surprise.
After completing a BA at Camberwell School of Art and MA at The Royal College of Art, Anna spent several years in the States where she taught ceramics at Syracuse University alongside developing her own work.  She now works at her studio at home in Sydenham, as well as working part-time at Morley College in London as Program Manager of the HND Ceramics course.

This Tall cream vessel is made from black clay from Tokomame, where Tetsuya Ozawa lives and works. With a subtly curved body and the unique curled lip, this vessel is indicative of Ozawa's preference for striking yet simple forms. Ozawa applies a traditional Japanese glaze, Chara, and uses ‘kofuki’, a dusting technique, to create his interesting uneven and organic surfaces which offer glimpses to the material underneath. Following the firing process, white soil is applied in a thin layer, enhancing the rough texture of the piece.

Ozawa's designs are created in a way that leave them open to interpretation and multiple uses and purposes. This one-of-a-kind vessel is completely timeless statement piece which demonstrates perfectly Ozawa's skill and signature style.

Tetsuya Ozawa originates from Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, but now lives in Tokomame City, Aichi Prefecture, which has been celebrated for its ceramic production since the Heian Period (794-1185). Ozawa’s decision to be a ceramicist was made early on, and he graduated in 2008 with a degree in Japanese Fine Arts from Nagoya University. He went on to train under Yoshikawa Masamichi. Ozawa’s tableware creations reconcile inspiration taken from modern crafts, tea culture and folk arts.

Kate Schuricht is an established British ceramic artist working in raku and stoneware. Kate studied Three Dimensional Design at the University of Brighton, specialising in ceramics and visual research.

After graduating in 1996, Kate was selected for an international ceramic residency in Japan, where she worked alongside established Japanese, Korean and American artists. Today Kate has her studio at home in rural Kent.
In 1998, Kate was awarded the highly prized Crafts Council Setting Up Grant. Now a Professional Member of the Crafts Potters Association, she has completed commissions for a number of private and public collections, including British Airways, the British Embassy in St Petersburg, Craftspace and Cowley Manor. Her work is collected worldwide.
