Vintage Bajot

Vintage wooden face sculpture by Jim Pruitt (1948 – 2011) sourced by Alchemy Works.
Illinois-native Jim Pruitt studied history and philosophy at LSU before beginning to sculpt in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His skills as a master carpenter are employed throughout this works as a self-taught artist, carving wood and stone by hand — no power tools.
In 1986 he moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he worked at the Blue Star Art Space. In his later years he carved large-scale wood pieces, exhibiting in numerous shows across Texas and Louisiana, but rarely offering his works for sale.
Pruitt died at the age of 63 in San Antonio in 2011.

Alchemy Works is a coastal California retail, gallery, and event space concept located in the Arts District of Los Angeles, Lido Marina in Newport Beach and inside Free Market in Denver.

Gond artist strive to depict the links between nature and man. Gonds are one of the largest tribal groups in India and live across several states in central India. The name Gond is derived from Kond, meaning green mountains where the tribes live. Traditionally Gond homes are decorated with two types of paintings for the walls and floors, which are made for weddings or festivals. Traditionally the colors were made from flowers, leaves, stones, rice, turmeric as well as different clays. Brushes were twigs wrapped in old cloth. Today the Gond artist use inks and acrylics to pay homage to their rich culture.

The Amina rug is a rare and one of a kind piece. It is not often to find a rug with such depth and warmth and beautiful coloring. The faint pattern behind the bold color begs the viewer to take a step in for a color look at this piece of art. These rugs are made with Moroccan architecture in mind, where areas are often very long and narrow – hence the unconventional shape. Multiple women work simultaneously on the loom to create each rug, which can cause slight change in dimensions from end to end. This variation, along with abrash coloration, fading, missing tassels, and worn edges, are distinguishing features of an authentic vintage Moroccan rug.
