Finn Juhl’s partnership with the furniture manufacturer France & Son gave birth to a series of furniture well-suited for industrial production, while staying true to the ideals of simple designs that reigned in the 1950s. The most famous example of this cooperation is probably the Japan Series from 1953, which consists of an armchair, a footstool, a two-seater sofa and a three-seater sofa. The sublime simplicity of this series is a far cry from his earlier furniture designs and is inspired by traditional Japanese building techniques. The solid horizontal backrest, resting on the slightly tapered legs, is a reference to a Japanese temple door. The backrest ends in a circular recess, adding an optically refined impression with great effect. That was very typical of Finn Juhl, who famously said that deviation is in the detail. Even with this simple construction, Finn Juhl is true to his idea of emphasizing the difference between the carried and the carrying elements by separating the backrest from the bearing frame with brackets in brass. The Japan Series is produced in teak, oak or walnut with handsewn upholstery in fabric.

Kubus designer Josef Hoffmann was born in Austria in 1870. At the age of 17, Josef Hoffmann started studying classic architecture in Brunn. From there he studied architecture under Karl Freiherr von Hasenauer at the Academy of Fine arts in Vienna. At that time, von Hasenauer was one of Europe's most popular architects. After von Hasenauer's death, Otto Wagner, Europe's most famous 19th-century architect took over the class. Josef Hoffmann went on to work for Wagner later in his career. Two of Hoffmann's enduring furniture designs, the Hoffmann Kubus and Hoffmann Velvet Chair, have gone on to be very popular into the 21st century.
The Josef Hoffmann Kubus Armchair was presented at the International Exhibition held in Buenos Aires in 1910 on the centennial of Argentinean Independence known as la Revolution de Mayo. Josef Hoffmann had a preference for geometric composition based on the square that was later attributed to his own formal language called "Quadratstil." This language was evident in everything Josef Hoffmann created both architecturally as well as in his innovative furniture designs. The Kubus design includes the derivations of the loveseat and three-seat sofas, as you see here.

The Marshall Sofa from CFC is one of the unique designs from this California based company, whom keeps quality in mind and strives to build furniture and home accessories that last for generations to come. CFC manufactures furniture the old fashioned way, by hand, in the United States. Many of their designs incorporate recycled douglas fir from torn-down homes and reclaimed oak from barns fences and box cars. These reused materials add to the hand finished characteristics of each piece.

Stanley 3-seater Sofa

The Mingle sofa was designed in 1935 by architect Flemming Lassen (1902-1984) and was presented at The Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Competition in the same year. It was subsequently praised for its qualities as a small but elegant sofa in the professional journal ‚ÄúThe Architect‚Äù. Flemming Lassen loved to travel, and he was often inspired by his journeys throughout Europe. He was very taken with both Italy and France, and had a burning desire to tour those countries on his motorcycle. Flemming Lassen wanted to create a sofa made for conversation with a comfort that invited people to stay seated and talk together for long periods of time. The armrests were designed to encircle the sitters, generating intimacy and transforming the sofa into a cosy place to relax. Flemming Lassen took inspiration from both French elegance and modern Italian style, and transferred the trends and his own ideas to a small, upholstered sofa called Mingle.

Los Angeles based designer Stephen Kenn has long been inspired by clean and simple design aesthetics and the stories inherent in vintage military fabrics. In 2011 he combined those two loves by creating The Inheritance Collection. The Mission is designed to underpin and cultivate the Japanese tradition of simplicity and harmony, in which the lines do not interfere with the design but rather enhance its function. With its stringent body, slender legs and eye for detail, the Mission positively floats and promotes itself as the perfect sofa for a simple interior design.

The Mission is a modern interpretation of the classic London sofa, with upholstered sides of the same height as the back. The sofa's slim body makes it easy to place - especially in urban homes where space is limited.

Mission Sofa

The Baseline sofa boasts a modern, modular frame with the classic comfort and elegant style of Eilersen design. Its full-bodied frame is lightened by it's recessed base, which gives Baseline the illusion of floating and allows for easy maintenance under the sofa. Featuring densely packed cushions with tight upholstery and a wide, 9" armrest, the Baseline is ideal for relaxed entertainment and lounging with loved ones.

Both the seat and back of the Baseline are upholstered with a super flexible layer of pre-compressed fiberfill which optimizes sitting comfort and gives a soft, rounded look. The broad arm rest gives a balanced finish while lifting the sofa, which seems to float freely in the air on its legs of black-stained wood.
