This bowl is wheel thrown in different combinations of dark and light stoneware. Abigail plays with a palette of dolomite and transparent glazes. Each piece undergoes a further firing to be lightly gilded with (24 carat) gold lustre. All glazes are food safe.

Any bowl is basic and universal in its meaning.  The process of building up and then turning the form creates their skin and character. Abigail relies on the processes of slipping and chattering; words which describe human contact. These pieces are about imprinting the imperfect, unexpected and unrepeatable marks of a human hand on the most primal and unchanging material.

"With glass the element of surprise is how beautiful bubbles and depth can be achieved. This is dependent on how the glass folds and melts when being cast for several days in a kiln. While this offers fluidity and movement the modelling and finishing processes are always very controlled; the forms I make are symmetrical and there needs to be real clarity in the surface finish. Models are made with varying thicknesses. Glass pools into these shapes, creating subtle changes in colour. Light interacts with polished and satin surfaces, reflecting and refracting in beautiful ways."

Celia Dowson is an artist whose ceramics and cast glass objects go far beyond their functional use. Celia graduated with a BA in Ceramic Design from Central Saint Martins in 2014, before receiving her MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art in 2018.
Celia works with the different properties of glass and porcelain to evoke the movement of nature in different ways. Her porcelain vessels represent evolving landscapes, mountainscapes and seascapes through marks and gestures. Her glass pieces vary in thickness, causing subtle gradations in colour. This reflects the colours, changing light and mystery of the natural world.
Celia’s work has been exhibited widely and is part of two museum collections, Bullseye Projects in Portland, USA and the New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, Taiwan. Her unique and skillful manipulation of ceramics and glass have earned her awards such as the 2020 Wallpaper* Design Award and the 2019 FRANZ Rising Star Award.

The interior of the bowl is smoothly textured and glazed with one of a number of glaze recipes that Robynn has acquired from mentors and friends and subsequently enhanced to suit her clay bodies and surface treatments.
The hand of the maker is made evident and reveals the artistic process. Imperfections are embraced in Robynn's objects, which are made to become more beautiful, valuable and meaningful to the user over time and through use. This bowl  is timeless and will be a wonderful addition to everyday life and all meals.

Masako Nakagami is a Japanese ceramicist working in a range of techniques including hand building and wheel throwing to create her curved forms that feature expressive surface textures.
Masako worked at Kyoto University of Art and Design as an assistant teacher in the Department of Ceramics before moving to the UK and setting up her studio in East London. Now back in Kyoto, Masako exports her ceramics throughout the world.

In his small studio, Peter formerly worked with fine white clays that he blended to his own recipes; however, more recent work has been undertaken with a blend of English porcelain from Valentine Clays. His current production is almost exclusively one-off bowls and vases. Most work is thrown on a potter’s wheel, raw-glazed when bone dry and once fired to 1280°C. The lure of new glazes he finds irresistible and he is constantly experimenting with and developing new glaze recipes. He is a member of South Wales Potters, and a Professional member of The Craft Potters Association of Great Britain.

Jamie’s travels in the East inspired the beautiful indigo patterns on this ceramic bowl. The block-prints that are hand-applied to the exterior are reminiscent of the colorful kimonos still worn in parts of Japan. This small round bowl is made from black clay from Tokomame, where Tetsuya Ozawa lives and works. Strong, yet light-weight, its simple form accentuates the piece's surface. Ozawa applies a traditional Japanese glaze, Chara, and uses ‘kofuki’, a dusting technique, to create his interesting uneven and organic surfaces which offer glimpses to the material underneath. Following the firing process, white soil is applied in a thin layer, enhancing the rough texture of the piece.

Ozawa's designs are created in a way that leave them open to interpretation and multiple uses and purposes. His tableware is made 'imperfect' with the hope that the pieces will continually evolve through daily use. This characterful bowl is simultaneously precious and enticing to use, and is sure to bring joy to meals.

Tetsuya Ozawa originates from Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, but now lives in Tokomame City, Aichi Prefecture, which has been celebrated for its ceramic production since the Heian Period (794-1185). Ozawa’s decision to be a ceramicist was made early on, and he graduated in 2008 with a degree in Japanese Fine Arts from Nagoya University. He went on to train under Yoshikawa Masamichi. Ozawa’s tableware creations reconcile inspiration taken from modern crafts, tea culture and folk arts.
