The development is the centerpiece of an urban revitalization scheme transforming the Nordhavnen waterfront district of the city. Each of the Silo’s 17 storeys varies in size, resulting in 40 uniquely proportioned apartments (including one owned by MENU’s founder Bjarne Hansen). No two apartments are the same, but each is fitted with the brass Walker Lamp.

The VL Ring Crown family derives from a lamp designed by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen for the Danish Broadcasting House in Copenhagen in the 1940s. The wall lamp and pendant versions, with the characteristic organic form, were put to good use at the Danish Broadcasting House. For this project Vilhelm Lauritzen also created the VL38 and VL45 lamps. The original VL Ring Crown never appeared there, but not long after, a Ring Crown based on the original drawings was launched. In 1947, the designer Finn Juhl, who worked for Vilhelm Lauritzen, used the VL Ring Crown as part of the interior design for the Danish porcelain manufacturer Bing & Grøndahl in Copenhagen. True to its original materials and design, the VL Ring Crown was reintroduced in 2019. It’s made of untreated, polished brass and with three, five or seven shades in glossy white, triple-layered, handblown opal glass. It was complemented by the wall lamps and pendant originally installed in the Danish Broadcasting House. The VL Ring Crown family brings a distinct and authentic touch to stylish interiors as well as a warm light to softly illuminate contemporary living.

Apart from lighting up in the dark they symbolize the hope for a bright future. The award-winning Hong Kong based design duo Lim+Lu has in collaboration with Lucie Kaas explored the idea of interpreting the traditional lantern. The result is Moonbeam made from ribbed, frosted, white glass and steel. It’s not childhood memories alone that make the traditional lantern such a cherished object to the Chinese design duo established by Elaine Lu and Vincent Lim. The built-in flexibility of the lantern has also fascinated the two designers. "Traditionally, lanterns were carried at night to illuminate one's path. Upon arriving at their destination, the lanterns would be set on a surface or hung up to provide lighting for the space. That flexibility was important for us to integrate in the Moonbeam collection," says Vincent Lim. "In collaboration with Lucie Kaas we have taken an Asian icon and reinterpreted it, so it fits the aesthetics of Scandinavian design characterized by simple a minimalistic expression combined with functionality. To us it's important that design both compliments and challenges the users. Design must provoke an emotional response. Design is made for people, it should trigger the senses," says Elaine Lu.

This lamp references an archetypal personal desk lamp for home or office use, and seeks to offer a fresh interpretation of the familiar on a domestic scale. The lamp is predominantly made from brass - a material commonly associated with lights, though not so widely used today. The intention was to create a simple form with a clear distinction between a base, a single arm and a lamp head. The lamp has no visible joints and minimal directional movement, without compromising its function.
