The SE 05 dining room chair with a seat and backrest made of wicker, was designed in 1960 by Martin Visser. The manuscript of Visser is unmistakably visible in the apparently simple design. Like his colleagues Marcel Breuer and Poul Kjærholm, Visser designed his SE seats in three versions: with upholstery (SE 07), in saddle leather (SE 06), and the SE 05 in wicker. The minimalist frame of the chair leaves plenty of room for the special craftsmanship of weaving wicker. The frame of the SE 05 is made of brushed, chrome-plated metal or black powder-coated. The seat and back are made of wicker, a natural material made from the solid core of peeled rattan stems. 160 meters of wicker can go in one dining room chair! The weaving of wicker is carried out by local, specialized professionals.
