Designed by the Italian designer Alex Gufler, the Merano bentwood side chair is one of the newest items from TON.  The unique axis of the seat and arms give the chair contemporary character, but also allows the chair to maintain a certain traditional look.  The Merano bentwood armchair was the Red Dot Design Award Winner in 2011.
The Merano is constructed in one of the original bentwood factories set up by Michael Thonet in the 1800s. The factory has been in continuous operation since its inception in 1861.  It is now just one of three of the original bentwood factories still in production.
