The No 150 Bentwood Chair design continues to be one of Michael Thonet's most popular designs.  Its elegant curved back and durable seat make it a favorite bentwood chair for cafe, restaurant, and residential applications.
In 1852, Michael Thonet applied for one of his most important patents relating to the curving, cutting, and regluing of woods. This helped to secure the foundation for Michael Thonet and his sons to create a mass production bentwood furniture facility in Vienna, Austria. This plant became too small, and the company created an additional factory in Koritschan located in the Moldavian mountains. The first year of production saw about 10,000 chairs being made. By 1860, the factory was producing over 50,000 chairs per year. Today it is estimated that over 50 million of Michael Thonet's bentwood furniture creations have been manufactured in various facilities around the world since the inception back in the 1800s.
