The No. 1 Bentwood Chair was designed by Michael Thonet in 1849. It is regarded as supple, light, and elegant. This bentwood chair used the new technique of steam-bent beechwood and clearly shows the Gebrüder Thonet Vienna philosophy. The components have been simplified to enable mass production. The seat is made from woven cane.
