Eero Saarinen’s Pedestal Series is recognized as one of the most iconic furniture collections from the mid-20 th century.  Designed between 1954 – 1957, the Saarinen table continues to be popular in both residential and contract environments.
Born in Finland in 1910, Eero Saarinen was highly influenced throughout his youth by his father Eliel.  After emigrating to the United States in 1923, Eliel and Eero Saarinen were influenced by the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Eliel as a teacher, Eero as a student.  Throughout this time, the two collaborated together on architectural projects and furniture designs.  Eventually, Eero would move away from his father in favor of the International Style that was being cultivated by Mies van der Rohe, Marcel Breuer, and Mart Stam.  By the mid-1940s, Eero Saarinen’s designs were uniquely his own seen in such pieces as the Womb Chair.
