The late 1980s saw a power surge in Oakland—with Rookies of the Year Jose Canseco ('86) and Mark McGwire ('87) providing the clout, the A’s won four AL West titles, three AL pennants and a World Series. The two sluggers became known as "The Bash Brothers" for not only their power, but the way they’d bash forearms when congratulating each other after a home run.
