Curator's Notes

Hakuboku is amongst Ryuji Mitani's signature lacquer styles. The play of black outside and white accents inside helps draw focus to the items placed in the piece. Th black basw layer of lacquer that peeks through the interior and the solid black exterior walls add great depth and solidity within its smooth brushed surfaces. This size and shape works well as a serving bowl for salads and desserts.
