Curator's Notes

A rice scoop is one of those handy tools for daily life that is helpful to have in the kitchen. We particularly love this scoop based on a Japanese “shamoji”. Traditional shamoji wood scoops are used to stir, serve and add vinegar to sushi rice. When frequently dipped in water, the wood prevents rice grains from sticking to the spoon while the spoons soft edges prevent cutting the rice grains. The wood doesn’t scratch pots or rice cookers like most metal spoons as an added bonus.
