Curator's Notes

With it's gleaming copper handle and silver overglaze, this teapot really stands out as a sculptural, almost decorative piece but the beauty is that it is fully functional as a teapot or kettle that can be heated under a flame. We especially have fond memories of this teapot as it is the teapot Masanobu Ando used to perform a tea ceremony demonstration during the exhibition Shaping the Void. Lid has a steam hole
Interior and exterior is silver overglazed
Silver overglaze will patina to develop a black matter over time
The blackish patina is harmless and is a sulfide film that occurs when silver combines with hydrogen sulfide in the air
The pot can be polished to remove the patina with toothpaste or baking soda and a damp cloth.
Can be used on a gas stovetop or portable teapot warmer
Handwash
Wipe with a cloth and dry well after use
Each piece is uniquely handcrafted and will have variations
Copper handle will oxidize to develop a patina over time
Do not place in dishwasher
Do not microwave
