Curator's Notes

This is a personalized tray - think pastry or sashimi for one. Pairing the plate with the right meal will naturally be determined by the contents of the dish and this tray deserves something special. The tree gives this plate so much expression even though there are layers of lacquer and artful strokes - yet nature is still at the base of the piece. It looks best with a couple small pieces of food, just a few bites to reveal the beautiful one-of-a-kind, painterly background.

Features Ryuji Mitani's signature on the bottom of the plate
Underside of plate is black
Do not soak urushi lacquered pieces in water for prolonged periods
Wash with a soft sponge and mild dish soap. Rinse with warm water
Wipe with a cloth and dry well
Each piece is hand lacquered by Ryuji Mitani and will have variations to the pattern and opacity of the lacquer

Urushi lacquer will patina and change in texture and color with time and use
