Curator's Notes

Ryuji Mitani has become known for his unique way of applying lacquer (urushi). The brushstrokes are visible leaving a one-of-a-kind surface. Because the rim of the plate is wide it makes it so whatever is placed at the center is emphasized. Makes for a really nice presentation so although it's a dinner sized diameter, we think a beautifully plated dessert would be a showstopper on this plate.

Bottom center surface of plate is lacquered black
Do not soak urushi lacquered pieces in water for prolonged periods
Wash with a soft sponge and mild dish soap. Rinse with warm water
Wipe with a cloth and dry well
Each piece is unique and will have variations
Urushi lacquer will become less glossy and more matte as time goes by
Do not place in dishwasher
Do not microwave
