About Shima Jewelry Nagano- based Shima Hotta began her artistic career in the late 80s studying pottery in Seattle and California. It was during this time that she developed an appreciation for the handmade. Returning to Japan, she continued her ceramic work in Tajimi, Shiga, and Aichi. In 2007, she began exploring new materials and techniques and became fascinated with the interaction between fire and metal. Today, she combines both disciplines to create esoteric jewelry with organic finishes under the Shima label.
