The playful simplicity of this graphic shelving unit belies the clever design, a tension of wires that grasp the wood shelves and serve as part of the structure. The powder-coated wires alternate in height, a visual cue of the unit's name, Climb. And the solid shelves are beveled on all four sides, a detail that is as much about aesthetics as it is structural utility where the come into contact with the "hugging" wires. Climb arose out of the graphic-minded mind of Bashko Trybek. Before the Polish designer established his studio Mundaka in 2010, he applied his eye as an art director for various magazines. Bashko is among the coterie collaborating with La Chance, the new Paris-based design house emphasizing furniture, lighting and rugs with a "strong personality" made from "noble, durable and natural materials" and all in "European human-size facilities" Got to love that. La Chance is also entrepreneur Jean-Baptiste Souletie and architect Louise Breguetbeen, who got together in life and work because of, well, la chance! The French duo have lived in India and China; designed offices in London and built homes in Haiti; and have lent their know-how to established luxury companies and start-ups firms. La Chance launched at the 2012 Milan Salone at Tom Dixon's MOST, a 5-building design world in Milan's National Museum of Science and Technology. The debut collection was based on the concept of Jekyll & Hyde — one item, two moods (hence Bashko offering Climb in color or black). We zeroed in on their colorful exhibition inside the railway hall, and it was love at first sight.

Description

Inspired by the full moon, the mouth-blown opaline globe served as the starting point for noted designer Gino Sarfatti’s iconic 1959 series, Le Sfere. As a wall light in a choice of large or small sphere, it’s held by a steel ring mount in either black or champagne finish. Now known as Model 237/1 and 238/1, it has been reissued by Copenhagen-based Astep—founded by the late designer’s grandson, Allessandro, and produced in Italy.

Description

The Ginger Pendant Light is designer Joan Gaspar's roundabout tribute to an unlikely inspiration—Ginger Baker, legendary drummer and founder of 1960s rock band Cream. It's easy to imagine the crash of his cymbals in the shape of the aerial shade. Achieving that refined curve takes cutting-edge technique, joining layers of paper and wood under high pressure. The result is a non-glaring LED light, thanks to the flat diffuser with its white interior to reflect the light. From Barcelona-based Marset, the pendant is available in 2 sizes with an elegant wood finish in either natural oak or wenge.
