A tenugui is a common household item in Japan. These versatile cloths can be used as anything from washcloths, to headbands, to simply for decoration.
These humble cloths date back to the Heian era (794-1192 AD). Worn for summer festivals, kendo practice and even used as props for storytellers, tenugui are an important part of Japanese culture and history.
Chu-sen dyeing is a technique unique from the more common process of screen printing images and patterns onto the fabric that make Tenugui. While screen printing merely lays pigment on the surface of the fibers, Chu-sen dyeing seeps all the way through to permanently color the fabric. )Kendogi are martial arts jackets meant for Kendo, a sport practicing swordsmanship with wooden swords. Kendo armor was introduced when the sport was introduced in the late Edo period, far after Samurai were abolished from Japan. Modern Kendogi are made in the same traditional styles as those adopted generations ago.

This particular jacket is hand-stitched, known as " musashizashi" style. Since it is not as durable as usual kendogi, this style is usually used by beginners or people wanting to stand out in events.

"Jinbei" is a form of nightwear or housewear normally worn by men. Although considered clothes to wear at home, Jinbei are also often worn in place of Yukata during the summer. This Jinbei set comes with a matching top and bottom made of shijira ori, a cotton textile produced in Tokushima, Japan. This particular fabric is unique because of the uneven, wrinkled texture. The texture feels comfortable when worn, and during the summer has an additional feature of preventing the fabric from sticking to you when you perspire.

Introducing Dougi Hitomezashi ( 一目刺し) Jacket. Dougi jackets were traditionally used for training in Japanese martial arts. This modern Dougi Jacket featuring Hitomezashi patterns are comfortable and perfect for layering or to throw on over a shirt on a warm spring or summer day.
“Hitome” meaning “one stitch” - Hitomezashi is a form of Sashiko that is based on a pattern of straight lines. The stitches can be joined together or cross each other. Hitomezashi uses Sashiko thread or Kogin Sashiko thread to increase the ‘plump grain of rice’ effect of the stitches.
These particular Hitomezashi Haori Jackets are Manufactured by Miwa Orimono in Japan, it is the only company in Japan that has kept this special jacquard machine from the 1940s. These machines are so intricate and old, one machine stitches only 1 meter (approx. 1 yard) of fabric in an hour. Owner Kenichi Oohazama is the 4th generation in this family business.
