Twig Lips is a New York City based artist. Self-taught, she has been painting since 2017 transforming canvas with ink, acrylic, and watercolor. Her work has been shown in galleries across NYC.

Her moniker is derived from the original source of her inspiration for painting. She began painting lips - which eventually evolved into her signature flowers that have remained an important part of her artwork.

To begin her creative process, she compliments her mood with music. She credits the music she chooses, which can span all genres and decades, with allowing each painting to flow in its own unique way. Twig Lips’ goal is to convey balance. Balance is achieved with a combination of bold ink spots and her intricate flowers. The flowers draw influence from 18th Century Japanese and Chinese porcelain. She cites the bright colors present in her work as a reflection of modern interior design, graffiti and architecture.

David Paul Kay is a New York City-based American contemporary artist & muralist. Originally from Eastern Europe (former Soviet Republic of Georgia) David migrated to the United States in 2008.
As a self-taught artist, Kay has always experimented with various different techniques; though his career evolved soon after moving to New York City early 2009 and developing his signature black & white style.
Using vibrant lines, shapes and intricate compositions David transforms blank surfaces into complex yet simple to read narratives. Kay's obsession with detail, versatility of scale and perspective lead to the creation of hundreds of his drawings, paintings, murals and sculptures.
David's work has evolved into various different series: "Matter", where artist experiments with the fabric that makes us all, the fabric of the universe; "Psychoanalysis", series of thought experiments used as an unique form of storytelling; "Icons"; homage to universally recognized iconic figures; "Underdogs", exploration of daily struggles of being and belonging. Kay has developed numerous conceptual series such as “Seven x Seven” where the artist dives into a theory of compartmentalizing life into segments of transformations once every seven years; “The Circle of Time”, series of twelve interconnected pieces morphing into a clockwork loop all connected to number 12, exploration of how we understand and harness the phenomenon of time.
Throughout the past decade David’s work has been exhibited and included in private collections all over the United States, Europe and the Middle East, including artist residencies in Los Angeles, London and South of Spain, solo and group exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and Dubai. David has created numerous large scale interior and exterior murals in major cities of the US, Europe and Africa, including the recent “Mona Lisa V” in Wynwood Art District for Art Basel Miami 2019.
The artist has collaborated on global campaigns and private commissions with major brands such as Montblanc, PayPal, Cadillac, Equinox and others. In 2015 David painted a brand new ATS-V for cadillac live at Pulse Miami Beach during the Art Basel week, in 2017 he was commissioned to create murals at the Equinox Orchard Street showroom and offices in Lower Manhattan followed by large mural commission at PayPal Headquarters in New York. In 2018-2019 David Paul Kay collaborated with Montblanc on multiple projects including a global campaign “Montblanc x David Paul Kay”.
David’s work has been featured in Forbes, Architectural Digest, Vogue Italia, Wallpaper, Haute Living, Gotham Magazine, AM New York, Journal du Design, VAMP Malta and more.

Claire Price was born in New Zealand, studied Fine Arts at Canterbury University and began working as a photographer from the age of 18. Parallel to that, Claire continued to paint and began writing songs and performing. She signed her first record deal in 1998 and in 2000 moved to Paris to pursue music. Claire lived in Paris for 15 years, put out several EPs of music, exposed and sold her paintings in cafés and galleries and continued to work as a photographer specializing in fashion and portraits. In 2015 Claire moved to the US where she continues to paint and work as a photographer.

Julia Rivera is a talented and well-educated painter who has pleased many art collectors with her daring use of color, the internal rhythms of her compositions, and above all, her playful and refreshing imagery.
In her painting, Rivera, who was born in the Bronx in 1965, and who studied art in Florence, New York, and the School of Plastics Arts of Puerto Rico, creates an attractive, fairy tale universe where carefully chosen objects – clocks, fruit, little toy cars, bottles and elongated chairs – are arranged in order to let us see their essence in a surreal but celebratory manner.
Mallarme pointed out that a good poem has to be enigmatic. I believe that good works also have to possess magic and mystery. A good work of art does not let us know everything. Influenced by Gorky, Miro, Chagall and Matta, and quite aware of what has happened in the field of ‘lite’ neo-figuration during the last three decades, Rivera combines humor and poetry to conceive well balanced scenarios where the mundane and metaphysical establish dialogue about time and the human condition.

Sei Smith

Sei Smith (b. 1990, New York City) studied painting at The School of Art Institute of Chicago. He had his first solo exhibition in 2011 and has since shown both nationally and internationally. In 2012, Smith and his brother founded Apostrophe NYC, an art gallery/curation experiment. They notably staged guerrilla pop-ups in the stairwell of the Whitney, the courtyard at MoMa PS1 and a Brooklyn subway station. Along with his art practice, Sei continues to curate shows/happenings.

Sei Smith’s work from Reflections 1-2 is founded in the concept of phenomenology, a mode of thinking established at the dawn of the twentieth century by Edmund Husserl. Phenomenology emphasizes awareness of one’s own life as life occurs. It suggests that we interact with the phenomena of our world through experience, and that these experiences result in us being people who play, think, feel, reflect. The revelations we form—the ones we find to be most true—occur to us because we choose to participate in life as unique and subjective individuals.

As you consider the course of your own sensory involvement with the work, Smith’s kinship with these ideas becomes apparent. The fluorescent shadows cast over plains of white act as invitations that draw the eye’s attention before sustaining your gaze. An intense quality of focus can be felt in the presence of these works, one that is rarely experienced in our time, as we grow dependent on new forms of communication and technology.

Smith has said that the shapes, shadows, and textures of his Reflections work are unavoidable elements: “But to see is to be attracted, and to be attracted is to desire a kind of unattainable understanding. This is, to me, the beginning of every experience I’ve had with art.”

The paintings of artist Claire Price are infused with memories of New Zealand where she was born and raised. Her bold acrylic paintings—which range from images of the fabulous to glimpses of the disappearing natural world—are charged with mystery and activated by intense, artificially charged colors. Price co-mingles affection and pathos for her subjects as she explores the terrain of memories and photographs, transposing culture and nature into her distinctive personal idiom.
Interested in the expressive possibilities of “technical narrative,” which suggests that the traces of an artist’s efforts are in themselves a kind of subject matter, Price’s layered canvases transmit the many decisions she makes while painting. Swaths of intense hues, skeins of drips and delicate impasto textures make in-person inspection of her surfaces a sensually-charged experience.
Price is a multi-talented creator who has previously worked as a freelance photographer and a singer/songwriter. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, but has lived and exhibited in New Zealand and Paris. Price’s photographs have appeared on album covers, and in publications including Elle and Wallpaper. During her musical career she created and released two EPs and was a member of the band Frank, which was signed by Universal Publishing.
In a recent interview published by Art in Res, Price described her work this way: “I am also drawn to imagery I find campy, fabulous, daring, and sometimes a bit spooky. I love using bold color and I try to create work that brings joy and has an element of intrigue.”

ABOUT HOLLY SUZANNE RADER
Holly Suzanne Rader began her fine arts career as a classically-trained portrait painter, while in recent years evolving into a sculptor and mixed media artist exploring a wide range of materials including acrylic, photo collage, wax, resin, paper mâché, sequins, glitter and even candy. She is drawn to subject matter typically of vintage glamour. Bright drips of paint, glitter-enhanced photos and high gloss finishes create a visual seduction of color and texture. The overture of her work, whether on canvas or in sculpture, evokes a playful presence of the feminine soul.
While completing her MFA at the Savannah College of Art and Design, she travelled extensively and received international recognition. She was a featured artist in the 2002 Women by Women exhibition at the Mona Bismark Foundation in Paris. She was commissioned to create paintings for the 2006 Scad Fashion Gala honoring designer Vera Wang. In 2010, the college commissioned her to create over one hundred mixed-media fiber works to be installed at their new Hong Kong Campus.
Cottage Living Magazine described her work as ‘blending femininity with modern form.’ She has also been featured in the New York Times, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Le Monde and Le Figaro magazines.

Smith earned his BFA from The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University with a concentration in Studio Art in 2006. He was raised in New London, Connecticut and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.

Eva Silberknoll is a mixed-media artist who was born in Austria in 1976. In 2010, she graduated with a Master of Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Photography, collages, and travelling the world are her passions.
She started her creative career in the fashion business which is why she likes to work interdisciplinary by using colors and textiles. During her studies she got to know many different techniques which she enjoys combining now. Photographs are printed on canvas, where she paints, writes, or sews them over.
She disassembles and reassembles her photographs and footages into pieces of their own.
“I love to create a surreal visual experience, for which I preferably use this special technique. By combining photography, collage, and painting, I tell stories which are close to my heart – always colorful, bold, and funky.”

My work is like a type of photography, but using clay. It becomes like diaries or maps that are recording the many walks I take around the city. Whilst walking, I am looking at overlooked details in the landscape, things deteriorating, things seemingly unimportant, or things under threat to disappear. The essence is capturing things that are significant for documenting a particular place at a particular time. As I am walking and rewalking I discover new and different things each time. I touch and explore textures and fissures in the landscape with my hands and body and I take prints of what I find with clay – like 3-dimensional photography. Back in the studio, I make plaster moulds from the clay prints made whilst walking. My cast pieces are made using the same moulds with very different results each time. I'm letting the pieces grow organically, and sometimes partly collapse, according to the laws of gravity or entropy. They are never really ‘finished’, but rather frozen somewhere during this process. Textures on the surface look like growth rings or skin.
I only went out for a walk, and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.

Mark Gens is a multi-media artist whose work includes collage, installation, video, e-literature, sculpture, and critical writing. He received his BFA from Otis College of Art in Los Angeles CA and his MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY. Mark is a queer boy who came out in New York City in the midst of the HIV/AIDS crisis of the 1980s.
This deeply personal and political experience became the driving force in his life and in his studio practice. He has worked throughout the US teaching art to children and adults, participating in intercultural art programs, and exhibiting artwork. Although the 1980s and 1990s were a dark time in the life of NYC, Mark was also aware of the phenomenal burgeoning creativity: hip hop culture, activist art, community organizing, ACT UP, etc. He understands how creativity and cultural production have always served well political and personal action. Over the past four decades Mark has maintained a prolific art practice, “I have engaged image, object, space, and audience with the goal of raising consciousness and awakening perception.” While the core of his art practice remains the same, Mark is always exploring new methods, materials, and imagery.

Samuel Staffan is a Brooklyn based artist exploring our relationship to the natural world, the passing of time and the fragility of memory. Using a range of techniques from a self-developed method of layering and tearing rice paper as a way of “adding some time” onto the paintings to working on Japanese papers while they are completely saturated with water, materiality and texture play a huge role in the work. Using these layered and weathered surfaces the paintings become a pursuit to examine the most extreme fringes of human’s relationship to time, trying to find the eternal, the transient and the infinite in nature. The hazy, half-remembered depictions of the natural world evoke a melancholic spirit but still manage to remain optimistic and hopeful.

Is it the case that when we least expect it, when we are overwhelmed by our circumstances and when despair begins to take us over, something or someone ends up helping us? If the answer is yes, then we can call that help Providence, Luck or Destiny.
Giovanni Pulze’s positive response to this is simply the representation of an ‘Angel’. Not an angel in the traditional religious sense of the term, and not a pictorial transposition for the modern cinematic kind of angels depicted by Wim Wenders. This ‘Angel’ can be any person, someone met in the street, someone met by chance or by mistake, someone who could perhaps change your day with their smile, or change your life with a gesture. The white wings therefore become a metaphor, a symbol for potential, this ‘something’ that we all have and that can be harnessed, right here right now, to offer help within this Daily Paradise we exist in.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Giovanni Pulze, was born in Italy at Piove di Sacco in the province of Padua on 1960, now resident in Badoere in the province of Treviso. First solo exhibitions in 1981. From a casual encounter with the “Maestro” Orlando Fasano at the time retired in the country side of Venice in Mogliano Veneto after having spent many years in Paris and meeting and working with many famous painters like of Picasso, Mirò, Cocteau and Prevert, a great friendship develops and G.P. discovers more of the modern art. From 1991 he started to develop works of modern art, with a side line of designing a line of sport wear labeled ‘Jeans Latino’ additionally a very well received line of fashion eyewear, designing for Safilo, Marcolin, Celes, Filos Piave, Valberra. Pulzeʼs creations were part of collection for Versace, Valentino, Roccobarocco.
A well-received collection was the one inspired by ten great masters of modern art, from Modigliani to Picasso, Dalì to Fontana and Warhol. Pulze worked with ceramics, creating collections of Totems/Towers and others objects. In the late 1990 his glance to the fantastic takes Giovanni to study the work of the English painter Turner and of the German painter C.D. Friedrich from where heʼll learn the sense of ‘Emptiness’ and the ‘Loneliness of the Humanity’. From 1999 the dominate theme of his paintings is the presence of the ‘Metropolitan Angel’.

With a background in philosophy and architecture, G.T. Pellizzi has produced sculptures, installations, paintings, and even an alternative educational institute, all of which aim to engage audiences critically with political, financial, educational, and market systems. “It’s kind of like Socrates when he engages with the public,” he has said. “The work is important to bring attention to and make people talk about…things that are relevant in society and to our lives.” His career began with his co-founding of the Bruce High Quality Foundation in 2001, a collective whose projects examined these societal systems and structures. In 2011, Pellizzi decided to pursue his own work, extending the themes he has been exploring for the past decade through evocative pieces composed largely of basic building materials.

Ko Smith has been an exhibiting artist for fifteen years, his first solo show held in Cambridge, Massachusetts a decade ago, in 2007. His work has since been exhibited in numerous venues including Spazio TID in Milan, Italy, Six Month Space in New York City, Con Artist Collective in New York City, Create Collective in Miami, Florida and the Kentler International Drawing Space in Brooklyn, New York. He has received grants, residencies and awards including a grant and residency from Vermont Studio Center in Johnson Vermont, as well as an Arches Printmaking Award. Smith earned his BFA from The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University with a concentration in Studio Art in 2006. He was raised in New London, Connecticut and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
