Poul Henningsen designed his first lights back in 1925/1926 for an exhibition in Paris. His work with Louis Poulsen continued right up until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, PH sought to create glare-free lighting; aiming to direct light where it was most needed, and creating soft shadows while using incandescent bulbs as a light source. Poul Henningsen designed Snowball in 1958 and it was exhibited together with PH 5 at the Danish Museum of Decorative Art. However, Snowball received no particular attention on this occasion, and was only re-launched and manufactured from 1983.

You can find the spiral pattern wherever you look in nature – in the seed formation in sunflowers and pine cones, for example – and it has previously inspired Leonardo da Vinci, Johan Sebastian Bach and many other great artists from history," relates Øivind Slaatto regarding the source of inspiration for his new light. With its synthetic material, Patera emits a soft, pleasant light, whose secret lies in its intricate design: the light consists of a variety of differently positioned cells, which ensure that the correct angles are applied to the visor lines of the light and guard against all unpleasant glare. At the same time, the structure staggers the visual center of Patera, consistently providing new impressions of the light when viewed from different angles.

The Multi-Lite Pendant embraces the golden era of Danish design with its characteristic shape of two opposing outside, mobile shades that enable creating a personal installation and a wide range of lighting values in a room. By individually rotating the shades, the Multi-Lite Pendant can be transformed into multiple combinations where the light can be directed upwards, downwards or exude an asymmetrical art light. The Multi-Lite was first drawn in 1972 when Louis Weisdorf did an exception to his own design custom of using multiple repeating elements. Instead it reflects his passion for diversity. Two cylindrical shapes lay the foundation of the lamp and a metal ring encompasses it and anchors the two quarter-spherical shades, which ultimately completes a picture of an iconic design with multiple purposes. Dot Pendant

The PH 5 Mini, with a diameter of 30 cm, is a scaled down version of the iconic PH 5 (50 cm in diameter). Poul Henningsen developed the PH 5 in 1958 in response to constant changes to the shape and size of incandescent bulbs by bulb manufacturers. The PH 5 was introduced as a classic new product, and no one knew at the time that it would eventually become synonymous with the PH light. Irrespective of how the light is installed or the light source used, the PH 5 is and remains completely glare-free. The pendant was christened PH 5 due to the 50 cm diameter of the main shade. Poul Henningsen wanted to improve the colour reproduction characteristics of the light source in the PH 5. Small red and blue shades were therefore inserted to supplement the colour in the part of the spectrum where the eye is least sensitive – the red and blue areas – thereby subduing the light in the middle yellow-green region where the eye is most sensitive. The PH 5 design has been regularly updated as light sources have developed. Like the PH 5, the PH 5 Mini is available in the classic white version, a modern white model and in six colour versions, where the colour is darkest at the top and gradually lightens moving down from shade to shade. The struts are purple on the ‘classic’ model and bronze-coloured on the other seven versions. The reflector ring colour contrasts with the other hues. To celebrate the 60th anniversary in 2018 of this beloved pendant, Louis Poulsen released the PH 5 and PH 5 Mini in an edition that pairs copper shades and white tiers – and in 2019 with brass shades. The new metallic-and-white combination highlights Henningsen’s shade system design and adds new dynamism to one of his most recognised forms, with the mirror-like metal tiers reflecting their surroundings. The metal shades a untreated and will patinate over time.
