The table version of Funiculí, Spanish designer Lluís Porqueras' lamp concept that originated in 1979, expands on his notion of essential simplicity. Named for funicular up-and-down motion, the light moves similarly via a simple pair of clips. Meanwhile, the shade rotates 360 degrees to direct radiant light wherever needed, aimed downward for reading or upward for general reflected illumination. Base and stem of the lamp in lacquered iron with shade made of lacquered aluminum; a rubberized bottom adds stability to the lamp while protecting tabletops.

MENU presents Reverse Lamp, a new lighting solution that underpins the ever-present beauty of natural materials. In his search for simple and clever solutions in any given space, Danish designer Aleksandar Lazic looked to Italian marble tables from the 1970s when creating the Reverse Lamp. Inspired by the play on structure created by geometric constraints, the conical travertine base and curved, bronzed aluminum shade define the lamp’s perfectly balanced expression.
The light diffuses evenly across the unworked stone, left raw to allow the light to highlight its natural imperfections, revealing shadows and an intriguing color play that seems to stem from the base itself. At precisely the point at which the shade and base meet sits a dimmer switch for adjusting the light intensity. Fitted with a dim-to-warm LED light source, the Reverse Lamp casts warm light on a bedside table or subdued light on a cabinet surface, making it an elegant and characterful solution to a multitude of lighting needs.

Manhattan Portable Table Lamp: Sc52

The PH 3½-2½ Glass Table lamp was designed in 1928 and is one of many advanced projects undertaken by Poul Henningsen in the development of his world-famous three-shade system from 1926. Poul Henningsen devoted most of his life to taming electric light. He based his three-shade design on a logarithmic spiral to make optimum use of the light source. He was constantly doing calculations and tests. The form of the shades was determined by the way they were required to shape and reflect the light, and the lamp was designed to be glare-free. The first PH Table lamp was completed in early 1927 and launched as an alternative to low-pitched hanging lamps. The white opal glass shades soften the overall look of the lamp and illuminate its surroundings with a perfect, harmonious and glare-free light that only the classic three-shade system is capable of emitting. The shades are mouth-blown three-layer opal glass, which is glossy on top and sandblasted matt underneath to provide soft and uniform light distribution.

With a tripod stand in glossy black-chrome finish, Gemo's distinctive mouth-blown globe lamp adds a striking table version. Its designer Luca Nichetto maintains studios in both his home city of Venice and Stockholm and his light takes its name from the Venetian "gèmo" which means yarn ball. The name also alludes to the incised lines on the surface that suggest the handicraft technique called “molatura” by which artisans imprint engravings directly on the glass. Maker Parachilna hand-assembles the lamp at its Barcelona facility with the matte opal glass diffuser and supporting steel structure, complete with a convenient on-cord dimmer.

Description
