The ultimate mirror? This oversized, free-standing oval might just pass the test of time. Design inspiration and the name draws from the concept of a statue, standing proud on a humble base of achwood or with loftier objectives on a pedestal of Carrara marble. But is the object the icon, or the owner of the reflection it frames? Iconic is a mirror that stands as a statue. In either material, the pedestal shape and metal cylinder intersecting both base and mirror contrasts with the thickness of the mirror they support. The effect is irresistible. The Iconic was conceived by Israeli-born Dan Yeffet Czech Republic native Lucie Koldova. The pair first began collaborating while working with designer Arik Levi. Since teaming up on their own in 2010, Dan and Lucie have showcased their work in galleries in Paris, New York, and Prague. This mirror is part of the inaugural "Jekyll & Hyde" collection by Paris-based design house La Chance, the new Paris-based design house emphasizing furniture, lighting and rugs with a "strong personality" made from "noble, durable and natural materials" and all in "European human-size facilities." The debut collection was based on the concept of one item, two moods (in this case, the wood or marble base). La Chance is also entrepreneur Jean-Baptiste Souletie and architect Louise Breguetbeen, who got together in life and work because of, well, la chance! The French duo have lived in India and China; designed offices in London and built homes in Haiti; and have lent their know-how to established luxury companies and start-ups firms. They launched La Chance at the 2012 Milan Salone at Tom Dixon's MOST, a 5-building design world in Milan's National Museum of Science and Technology. We zeroed in on their colorful exhibition inside the railway hall, and it was love at first sight.
