The 413 Cab Armchair designed by Mario Bellini in the 1970s is now a signature piece of Cassina’s Contemporanei collection.
The supporting structure of the Cab armchair is an enameled steel frame. To upholster, sixteen pieces of saddle leather are individually die cut undergoing an additional fourteen discreet procedures by hand. The pieces are sewn together after their outer edges have been trimmed to ensure a perfect fit. Once assembled, the cover is attached to the chair’s steel frame and held in place by a zipper fastening, as in a bespoke tailored garment. Today this model adapts and expands to meet contemporary needs.
Cassina was established in 1927 in the Northern region of Brianza, Italy, an area noted for its skilled artisans and woodworkers.
