Our friends at MyHavtorn — who grow, pick, and press the sea buckthorn oil featured in all of their skincare items — are very excited about this new hero product, which particularly shines in cold weather and on long plane flights.
The rich, preservative-free Night Balm was designed to help skin recover and rebuild at night with a blend of soothing and nourishing oils, like essential fatty acid-rich sea buckthorn, vitamin E-rich blueberry, and soothing neroli. Celebrated facialist Kristina Holey and renowned formulator Marie Veronique originally developed Barrier Restore for Kristina’s clients who had a weakened skin barrier (many of them struggled with perioral dermatitis or rashy, immune-compromised skin). But when they began to see how effective it also was at restoring health to skin that was dealing with a wide variety of external aggressors, from over-processing to air travel, they determined that it was “imperative for all skin.” And we have to say we agree: this brilliant blend of ingredients leaves any skin feeling more comfortable and less prone to dryness, even in the dead of winter or the driest airplane cabin.
Like all the Kristina Holey + Marie Veronique serums, Barrier Restore is designed to work by strengthening the skin and making it more resilient; this particular serum is the all-around MVP of the team. Marie Veronique Probiotic + Exfoliation Mask was bound to become one of our favorites. We love a good, gentle-yet-effective enzyme exfoliating mask, and the two others we have on our shelves represent necessary ends of the spectrum: Luzern’s Hydra-Enzyme Masque is rich, creamy, and moisturizing, while Ursa Major’s Bright & Easy Flash Mask is gel-based and hydrating in a lighter way. But sometimes it’s good to have a Goldilocks option that sits squarely in the crowd-pleasing middle.
But beyond that, Marie Veronique’s brightening, hydrating, and smoothing formula is, as one might expect, thoughtful and multifaceted. 5% lactic acid loosens dead skin cells that are then eaten up by lemon bioferment enzymes; this combination provides swift but gentle exfoliation that’s suitable even for sensitive, rosacea- or hyperpigmentation-prone skin. Olio E Osso’s Tinted Balms have a major cult following among celebrities and pro athletes alike.
