Description

Hvidt & Mølgaard was a Copenhagen-based, Danish design and architectural firm which existed from 1944 until 2009. Founded by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, the company was a pioneering force in Danish furniture design and industrialized production in the 1950s, creating furniture that was easy to mass-produce and economic to transport.
This FD-130 lounge chair and ottoman is so cool with beautiful lines and color in solid teak. We created custom cushions in a lovely, silky salt and pepper gray Brazilian cowhide. The cushions are filled with feathers for a sink-into seat. Not only is this a beaut to look at, it's supremely comfortable too.

We love balls! Mid-century masterpieces. From Aarnio Originals website: The Ball Chair was designed in 1963 and debuted at the Cologne Furniture Fair in 1966. The chair is one of the most famous and beloved classics of Finnish design and it was the international breakthrough of Eero Aarnio. The Ball Chair can be found in the collections of design museums around the world and it has starred in several movies, music videos, and magazine covers.

Condition

Overall in very good condition. The fiberglass surface is in age-appropriate condition, presenting with light scratches, indentations and very minor black paint marks consistent with gentle use. There is an area under one seat where the fiberglass has concentrated losses and abrasions, covering an area measuring approximately 4.5 inches. The base of each chair has areas of discoloration, not visually distracting. The fabric upholstery appears to have been sensitively replaced at some point in the history of the chairs and is in excellent condition. Please note that only one of the two chairs swivels.

We didn't have the matching ottoman so our incredible upholstery team created one. A cool Pierre Frey mohair velvet in Celadon complements the beautiful proportions. Introducing a collection of timeless design icons restored by Forsyth with fabric designed by KULE. The collection includes an Eero Saarinen Womb Chair, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe Brno chairs, and a George Nelson bench, all restored in St. Louis with custom KULE fabric from a storied Italian mill.
A German born designer, Mies van der Rohe originally designed this chair for his renowned Tugendhat House in Brno, Czech Republic. It was later produced by Knoll. The cream doppio stripe KULE-designed fabric melds perfectly with the lean profile and clean lines of Mies van der Rohe’s design.

This is a medium sized Womb Chair, just a smidge smaller than the regular size. Our master upholsterers went down to the bones of the chair, removing all old foam and replacing with new foam. Luxurious down feathers generously fill the back and seat cushions. Our designers chose a beautiful Dedar boucle for upholstery. The boucle is made up of a luxurious alpaca wool and cotton in a stunning ivory hue.

Description

This is an early edition "Wassily" from Berlin based manufacturer, Standard-Möbel. It exhibits the original army green Eisengarn canvas. A truly iconic design, deserving to be in a museum.

The model for this chair is the traditional overstuffed club chair, but all that remains is its mere outline, an elegant composition traced in gleaming steel. The canvas seat, back, and arms seem to float in space; the body of the sitter does not touch the steel framework. Breuer spoke of the chair as his “most extreme work . . . the least artistic, the most logical, the least ‘cozy’ and the most mechanical.” It was also his most influential piece of design, taking furniture in a radical new direction. Breuer had designed an earlier version in 1925, while teaching at the Bauhaus, the influential German school of modern art, architecture, and design in Dessau, and within a year designers everywhere were experimenting with tubular steel. Breuer claimed to have drawn inspiration from the tubular-steel handlebars of his bicycle, which were strong, lightweight, and mass-produced. He reasoned that if the material could be bent into handlebars, it could be bent into forms for furniture.  The chair was dubbed the “Wassily” after the painter Vasily (or Wassily) Kandinsky, Breuer’s friend and fellow Bauhaus instructor, who had praised the design when it was first produced. - from MOMA.

Inspired by the frame of a bicycle and influenced by the constructivist theories of the De Stjil movement, Marcel Breuer was still an apprentice at the Bauhaus when he reduced the classic club chair to its elemental lines and planes, forever changing the course of furniture design. - from Knoll.

Overall in fair to good condition. The tubular steel frame with scattered pitting, losses, and oxidation to the plating, consistent with the aging process of the material and with use over time. The fabric upholstery panels shows evidence of over-stretching and sagging consistent with age and use. Chair shows traces of surface dirt throughout consistent with age. With original Eisengarn and replaced canvas, as seen in the catalogue illustration. The original Eisengarn armrests show discoloration and fading, consistent with the natural aging process of the material. The canvas with wear and surface soiling consistent with use. The tubular steel frame with a slight seam separation in the metal construction to the center base rail.

The Austrian architect Josef Hoffmann was a central figure in the evolution of modern design, and a leader in an aesthetic movement born in Europe in the late 19th century that rejected florid, extravagant ornamentation in favor of a new emphasis on simplicity of line. As a founder of the turn-of-the-century Weiner Werkstatte (in English: the Viennese Workshops), a design co-op that produced superbly crafted furniture and housewares, Hoffmann was a pioneering practitioner of what would become a fundamental principle of modernism: that good design is a way of life.
This beautiful set of nesting tables, designed circa 1906 in Austria by Jacob & Josef Kohn, are made of beech wood.  The top is a stunning green glass.

The Forsyth Pouf Ottoman In Black Cowhide 01

Description

After acquiring this beautiful Biedermeier sofa, we knew we wanted something special for the fabric restoration. So, we turned to our fave designer's line, Beata Heuman. Her Florentine Flowers was a match made in heaven for this piece. From Beata Heuman: Florentine Flowers is inspired in part by Beata’s time spent studying art in Florence, where many buildings are decorated with the Florentine Giglio. The floral motif has been a symbol of the city for centuries, inspired by the Iris Fiorentina that grow wild along the Arno river valley and hills around the city.
This piece also portrays the painstakingly masterful restoration job we are known for. The entire sofa has been rebuilt during our rigorous restoration process. It has been re-glued in areas, the springs have been re-tied and replaced where needed, and the result is a luxurious, ready to go piece for modern, everyday living.
What's more! We love furniture that transforms. The back of this lovely sofa can be removed to make a bench or daybed. Incredible.

Part of our Forsyth x St. Frank collection. This bespoke ottoman is perfect for a variety of uses - ottoman, coffee table, bench at the end of a bed, etc. Handmade by master iron craftsmen and our dedicated upholstery team, the welded steel legs are the perfect base. This example shows St. Frank's Ecru Cactus Silk with black painted metal legs.
From St. Frank | This upholstery fabric is inspired by our vintage Cactus Silk textiles, created by Berber people, indigenous to North Africa. Berber textiles can be identified by region and tribe, detailed with stripes and symbols. The small symbols seen here mimic traditional tattoos that adorn Berber women. The symbols have many meanings, such as longevity, fertility, protection against the evil eye, cures for illnesses, tribal association, and marital status. These textiles were traditionally made from the silk of the Sabra Cactus, but are now made from an alternate natural fiber.

This example shows St. Frank's Ecru Cactus Silk with white painted metal legs.
From St. Frank | This upholstery fabric is inspired by Kuba cloth, a unique textile featuring complex designs that are created when various geometric raffia pieces are stitched to a plain raffia background. The resulting rough surface is punctuated by repeated geometric patterns with unexpected interruptions in design. Men cultivate the raffia palm and weave the raffia cloth; women then create the patterned textiles. Traditionally, Kuba cloth was used as a wrapped skirt worn during burials. Later, it was incorporated in ceremonial dress for ritual dances and other celebrations.
