Description

Parachilna doubles up on the drama with this hanging lamp that juxtaposes 2 different shapes of designer Stephen Burks' woven-effect metal shades, originally suggested by artisanal woven baskets. In either matching or contrasting color finishes, each Anwar 30, 45 and 90 form is realized by welding nearly 100 steel rods into place, their different radiuses calibrated so they all fit together when completely assembled. Inside each curved structure, a second woven shape creates an intriguing counterpoint. In these striking combined versions, dual LED modules are placed between both structures, providing a glow of ambient illumination and highlighting the intricate pattern.

Norm Architects discovered the inspiration behind the Mass Light when traveling in cities such as Paris, Barcelona and New York. Fascinated by the street lamps, designers Kasper Rønn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen detached the street lamp from its original use and transferred the shape and combination of materials in order to design and outstanding, indoor pendant—the Mass Light. The pendant's well-known shape lets you focus on the beauty of the materials, its aesthetic structures and colors.

The Mass Light Pendant NA5 is available with a base in polished brass or Nero Marquina Marble with a 157" fabric cord. Like a magnetic field surrounding the central lantern, almost 100 strips of upholstered banding are made to create each of these pendants. The bands are made of a super pliable material and simple beige cotton, the lantern from white cotton and the fixture suspends from a stainless steel stem finished in a warm antique brass. Mimas Pendant

When Alvar Aalto designed the A110 pendant in 1952, it was nicknamed the Hand Grenade Light because it resembles the German grenades of the war. It was originally designed for the Finnish Engineers Association and the Council Chamber of Saynatsalo Town Hall. The design acts as a spotlight for direct illumination, with a bit of indirect lit being emitted from the top of the shade. It is available in white or black lacquered aluminum with a removable white, black or polished brass ring. It comes with a color coordinated canopy and cord to match the pendant finish. In 1887, England declared an imperial holiday to commemorate Queen Victoria’s 50th year on the throne—her “golden jubilee.” Public celebrations occurred across the empire. Photographs from India show a distinctive array of glass lanterns illuminating the occasion, representing the hybrid of Anglo and Indian design sensibilities.
