It was traditionally used for thatching and weaving, much like the coconut palm. Made of natural (untreated) bamboo ply. The flat pack kit includes the plastic assembly clips, a round white ceiling canopy and a 10' electrical cord with bulb socket that fits standard 100 watt, 120 volt incandescent bulbs.

The Nikau Pendant is available in the indicated colors, with Side A / Side B. Images show Side A on the outside and Side B on the inside, but all pendants can be assembled with sides A and B swapped. All painted colors are available with Caramel at an additional cost. Custom colors are also available at an additional cost and extended lead time.

With the 20th century focus on outer space, Mathieu Matégot’s 1953 pendant was the designer’s nod to postwar scientific progress in France. Using the winking moniker Satellite, he fashioned the light in his favored “Rigitulle,” technique of bent perforated metal sheet that he handled like fabric to make the oblong-shaped lamp. The lampshade bespeaks the designer’s love of color and its pinhole surface exudes an atmospheric play of light amid a room.

Marset's Pleat Box series, with model 24 the small-scale version, raids the digital toolbox for a design that's applied to one of the oldest heritage crafts—ceramics. A computer-generated fold in a piece of cloth becomes a striking creased ceramic shade, in a range of color options resulting from recycling different enamels. On the interior, a choice of either bright white or warm gold enamel creates a glittering effect. Pleat Box is also an exciting and first-ever union between between Xavier Mañosa, a master ceramicist from Barcelona, and the Mashallah design studio in Berlin with the Marset brand. Xavier's detour as an industrial designer informs his bold shapes while Mashallah, the brainchild of Hande Ak ç ayli and Murat Ko ç yigit, is right at the intersection of art and technology.

And the Beat goes on-with the Beat Wide variation in British designer Tom Dixon's unique series of pendant lights. Originally conceived during a field trip to India with his Royal College of Art students, the shapes are based on traditional brass cooking pots and water vessels. Using the same time-honored techniques, the lamps are spun and hand-beaten by skilled craftsmen from Moradabad in Northern India. But the technology is pure 21st Century, utilizing an LED light source. The firm Tom Dixon, established in 2002 by the renowned designer and his partner David Begg, encompasses everything from chairs to fragrance as well as a deep dive into lighting. Tom has been recognized with OBE honors and his work sits in museums across the globe including London's Victoria and Albert, New York's Museum of Modern Art and Paris' Centre Georges Pompidou.

Description

Vancouver-based ANDlight breaks new ground with its LED pendant centered around 4 unique shade profiles (which total 16 combinations in all.) Spotlight Volumes features a conventional downlight as well as a supplemental uplight that illuminates the ceiling, with a dimmable capacity to control the desired illumination. The fixture appears to float in space, suspended from an ultra-thin aircraft cable, while an electrical cord wraps around the unit to demarcate both halves. The spun-aluminum shade is finished in a textured matte powder-coat and is also available in a rich anodized black or gold.
