Owl & Pussycat Pendant

Bulb is not included. Lanterns in all sizes and colors have always played a significant role in Asian cultures from China and Vietnam to Japan and Thailand. Apart from lighting up in the dark they symbolize the hope for a bright future. The award-winning Hong Kong based design duo Lim+Lu has in collaboration with Lucie Kaas explored the idea of interpreting the traditional lantern. The result is Moonbeam made from ribbed, frosted, white glass and steel. It’s not childhood memories alone that make the traditional lantern such a cherished object to the Chinese design duo established by Elaine Lu and Vincent Lim. The built-in flexibility of the lantern has also fascinated the two designers. "Traditionally, lanterns were carried at night to illuminate one's path. Upon arriving at their destination, the lanterns would be set on a surface or hung up to provide lighting for the space. That flexibility was important for us to integrate in the Moonbeam collection," says Vincent Lim. "In collaboration with Lucie Kaas we have taken an Asian icon and reinterpreted it, so it fits the aesthetics of Scandinavian design characterized by simple a minimalistic expression combined with functionality. To us it's important that design both compliments and challenges the users. Design must provoke an emotional response. Design is made for people, it should trigger the senses," says Elaine Lu.

Cora 1 Light Pendant

AJ Royal is among the Arne Jacobsen designs developed in 1957 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (Radisson Collection). Here it could be found in a copper version above the tables in the snack bar behind the atrium, in the lounge on the 1st floor and in the Panorama Lounge on the 21st floor. The hotel opened in 1960 and with its 22 floors it gave Copenhagen its first real high-rise building heavily inspired by New York skyscrapers. In those days, the lamp was simply called the AJ Pendant. The segmented spherical design from 1958 is regarded as Jacobsen’s first steps back to the basic geometrical shapes that characterize the world-famous Danish architect’s later designs. The AJ Royal formed part of the overall design concept that Jacobsen developed for the hotel, of which a number of designs have achieved iconic status. Jacobsen did not only design the hotel down to the smallest detail for SAS (Scandinavian Airlines), he also designed nearly all the hotel’s original furniture and utility items. The lamps are probably the most well-known globally, including the AJ Lamp from 1957. The AJ Royal was originally produced in three colors: light grey, dark brown and black. Today, the AJ Royal is available in white in its two original sizes. A smaller variant is introduced in 2020 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the opening of the hotel, just as the series is reintroduced in black. The AJ Royal retains its classic, graphic look as sharply as ever – irrespective of whether it lights up a dining table, is used in an office, or a showroom, where it ensures an even and flawless downward light and generates ambience with its softened upward light.

Eos Esther Pendant

Shade Color

Marianne Brandt designed various lamps with Hans Przyrembel. This must have been music to the ears of Walter Gropius, because lamps could be exploited economically to raise much-needed funds for the Bauhaus School. The artists made the lamps at their own workshop, and they were then used at the Bauhaus workshops. One particular example is the hanging lamp known today as HMB 25/500, the height of which can be adjusted using a pendulum and counterweight. Its hemispherical shade is a clear reflection of Marianne Brandt’s signature style.
TECNOLUMEN reproduced the hanging lamps by consulting catalogs containing the exact dimensions and by studying two old models, one of which belonged to the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin.  Studies revealed that various materials and fittings were used with different dimensions. For example, the lampshade was made of aluminum, nickel silver or nickel-plated copper sheet.
TECNOLUMEN chose the nickel-plated version because non-anodized aluminum quickly loses its appeal and nickel silver (alpacca) is hardly manufactured anymore. Some of the lamps had a flanged lower edge to give the shade greater stability because the material wasn’t very thick.
The new lamps have a straight-cut edge (like some of the old models), and the pulley has been faithfully reconstructed like all the other parts. The socket and black covered cable are the only parts that have been changed to comply with modern requirements.

The HL 99 Bauhaus Pendant Lamp by TECNOLUMEN, consisting of a chrome-plated or polished brass tube with an opal ball, was created by an unknown designer in 1900. It was one of the first lighting fixture designs developed for electric light bulbs. It has enriched the interior designs of many architects, such as Peter Behrens, Adolf Loos and Josef Hoffmann. The Bauhaus School had similar designs by Marianne Brandt and Hans Przyrembel. This lamp was manufactured in large numbers in the 1920s and 30s, when it was mainly used in schools and offices.
