Type 80 Pendant

The iconic three shade system of the PH series of lighting fixtures was created in 1925/1926 by Poul Henningsen for an exhibition in Paris. The designer was determined to produce glare free lighting that was directed where it was needed most while creating soft shadows. The three shade system creates an even distribution of light as each shade reduces the light equally due to their distance from the light source. This is the first lamp to have been created using the scientific model of the logarithmic spiral as a basis for light distribution. There have been approximately one thousand variations of the original lamp with several floor, table, wall, and pendant versions currently available.
The mouth-blown white opal glass shades soften the overall look of the lamp and illuminate its surroundings with a perfect, harmonious and glare-free light that only the classic three-shade system is capable of emitting. The shades are mouth-blown three-layer opal glass, which is glossy on top and sandblasted matte underneath to provide soft and uniform light distribution.

A disco ball is the inspiration for the Scotch Club Collection by Marset. The sphere is shaped of ceramic with 72 facets to reflect the light in all directions. When traveling cities such as Paris, Barcelona and New York, Norm Architects Kasper Rønn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen were fascinated by the street lamps; the characteristic cast iron top - looking a bit like a hat - with a semi transparent glass sphere at the base. Back in the studio Kasper and Jonas detached the street lamp from its original use and transferred the shape and combination of materials in order to design an outstanding, indoor pendant – the Mass Light. The pendant was first launched in brown marble and glass as the two architects were keen on creating a lamp made from natural stone, which can withstand everyday use. The unusual use of solid marble for a lamp gives an exceptional sense of quality and durability. Later, two other quality materials were added to the range in the form of copper and brass. The shape of Mass Light is bold, strong and masculine. Yet feminine curves soften the expression. The well-known shape lets you focus on the beauty of the materials, its aesthetic structures and colors.

The way the walnut planes in the Muto both block and bounce light make for a very dynamic composition of light and shadows, from any vantage point. While the pinwheel form, with its repeating elements is symmetric, it appears very sculptural from any one view. The modern floating ideal is realized in the Muto.
